Following a carbon monoxide leak at a daycare in Pennsylvania on Tuesday morning, 28 people were transported to hospitals with minor to moderate injuries, according to fire officials.

According to Allentown Deputy Fire Chief Christian Williams, 27 children and eight staff members were present inside the Happy Smiles Learning Center at the time.

According to officials, the daycare has been evacuated.

As a precaution, UGI Utility crews responded and turned off the gas line outside the building, according to spokesman Joe Swope.

Williams stated that no cause has been established. Swope claims that UGI thinks the leak was brought on by a broken heating unit and a clogged ventilation system.
